The dakini Tigers Campaign

Tigers are facing extinction. If we don't act now, it will be too late.

There are thought to be as few as 3,200 of these incredible animals left in the wild, and due to poaching habitat destruction and a whole host of other issues, these numbers are falling year upon year.

Luckily, governments around the world are starting to take notice. This September, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin - a tiger fan and active tiger conservationist - is to host the first ever Heads of State Tiger Summit, organised with the World Bank and the WWF.

The summit, which is to be held in St Petersburg, Russia, is to coincide both with the Chinese Year of the Tiger and the city’s annual ‘Tiger Day” celebrations.

Thirteen government leaders from tiger-inhabited countries will meet to discuss the threats and issues surrounding the rapidly depleting global tiger population, and ways to fulfill the Tx2 Campaign targets to double these numbers by 2022.

So far, Russia is the only country to have succeeded in actually increasing its number of wild tigers over the past few years. But what this proves that it can be done - that the future of tigers is hopeful, and can be saved.

At dakini, we are passionate about tigers.

This year is the Year of the Tiger. We want to seize this opportunity, whilst the Russian Summit is underway and tiger issues are at last being brought into focus, to produce something truly wonderful and with serious impact.

The result will catapult the issue into the mainstream press, will provide real funding for the fantastic work done by tiger charities, and will, above all, celebrate the existence of this breathtakingly beautiful and universally loved animal.
